Travel Team (Grades 3-8) Uniforms
Every new travel team player (i.e. all Grade 3 players moving up from In-town) MUST order/purchase a new uniform kit (jersey, shorts & socks) during the registration process ($25 for kit). Information regarding this and sizing can be found here .
You will be able to re-use this uniform in future seasons.
If you're a travel player (Grade 3+) and need to replace any travel uniform piece(s) from what you used last year, please order them directly from Challenger Teamwear.
In-town (Grades PK/K-2) players' uniform is included in their registration price.
Fall 2021 Registration Fees
Registration Fee PreK/K
$75.00 (fee includes size 3 soccer ball, full uniform kit (jersey, shorts & socks) and season keepsake)
Registration Fee Grades 1/2
$75.00 (fee includes full uniform kit (jersey, shorts & socks) and season keepsake)
Registration Fee Grades 3-12/PG
Travel Uniform Fee Grades 3-12/PG
$25.00 (includes a full kit (jersey, shorts and socks))
All players must also have shin guards. Cleats are also strongly suggested.
Team Formation and Special Team Requests
All travel teams (Grades 3-8) are formed based on coaches' rankings from evaluations to be held in June (Note: Grade 7/8 teams do not typically have evaluations). Requests for children to be placed on specific teams are honored only in cases of siblings or coaches' children. Carpooling, or other matters of convenience, will not be considered.
SYSA makes every effort get all registered players onto teams, however, final team submission dates and maximum roster sizes are dictated by the league. If we have too few players to field a team at a particular age level, or if we have more players registered than we can roster, per league rules, we cannot guarantee placement. In those cases our only option may be to combine with other non-Sterling teams. In that case we use the registration dates to determine which players get spots on Sterling teams and which players may be asked to play on out-of-town teams. So registering early gives your child the best chance for a spot on a Sterling team.
Travel Player Evaluations
We want to evaluate ALL players! This IS NOT a "tryout" for only those looking to be considered for potential higher division teams we may place.
Currently, we do not anticipate needing an evaluation session for grades 7 and up.
Requests to play out of an age group
Playing up or down an age group requires a waiver from the SYSA Board (In-town - Grades PK/K) or the MAYS travel league (Grade 3+).
Waivers requesting to play up are much more likely to be granted than waivers requesting to play down. If you feel a waiver is warranted in your situation, or if you have any questions about the waiver process, please use the "Contact Us" tab.
Requests to play out of town
Playing for a team in a town other than where you live requires a waiver from both towns as well as permission from the league(s). If you live in Sterling and would like to request a waiver for your child to play on a team in another town or, if you live in another town and would like to request a waiver for your child to play in Sterling please use the "Contact Us" tab to initiate the waiver process.

SYSA Hardship Policy
Sterling Youth Soccer (SYSA) wants to make sure that children who want to participate in Fall soccer can, even if there are financial barriers. Given the unique situation this year we understand that this year costs for extracurricular activities may pose more of an issue for families than they have been in the past. We are offering a limited number of scholarships to players which would waive the registration fee and potentially the uniform cost. We are also offering a payment plan or payment deferment options.
If your child would like to play soccer, but you need help paying the fees this season please complete the hardship request form by June 15. It will be reviewed by a sub committee of the SYSA board. No confidential information will be shared or recorded in board minutes.
